CLUBMANS CHAMPIONSHIP 2006

 Haggispeed.          Silverstone 4th November

Gavin Childs fought off a determined recovery drive from Ray Mallock to take the Haggis Trophy at Silverstone in his Gryphon.

Mallock had qualified his Mk11B on pole, with Childs alongside. Anthony Denham’s Doris headed the second row, from Adrian Lester’s Mallock, the first of the K Sports.

Both Marcus Bicknell (Mallock) and Mike Luck (Dart) failed to make the start, but there was still a healthy 16 car field. As the lights went out it was Childs heading the field into Copse, as Mallock fell back to third behind Denham.

At the start of the second lap Mallock reclaimed second and immediately set about challenging Childs. But the Gryphon withstood lap after lap of pressure to retain the advantage, taking the flag and the trophy by 0.348secs.

Denham held onto a comfortable third and Howard Payne’s Mallock grabbed a late fourth and class win, after a racelong tussle with Lester. Adrian Brown’s Mallock completed the top six, followed by Jamie Champkin’s Phantom, who had Clive Wood B Sports Mallock inches behind.
